Lombok is not just about party islands in Three Gilis or busy tourism resort district in Senggigi. The island offers a wealth of gorgeous beaches that are far less crowded than those places. Mekaki Beach is not as popular as Senggigi or Kuta Mandalika, but the this quiet bay is a hidden treasure for the traveler who need a perfect tropical escape place from the city crowded.
This beach is located on a beautiful lagoon that is protected by green lush Sekotong hills. The turquoise crystal clear water making it perfect for swimming and sun bath. The under water park is filled with spectacular marine life, soft and hard coral formations, as well as numerous marine animals.
The whole area is very peaceful as there are hardly any people on this beach. A little slice of heaven in the middle of nowhere.
This beach is located at of south part of West Lombok, exactly at Dusun Rambut Petung I, Pelangan in District Sekotong. It need about 2 hours by car from Mataram or Lombok International Airport in Central Lombok.
From the city the visitors can hire a rent car or motorcycle to get the atmosphere of western side of Lombok. A unique mountainous landscape with a white sandy beaches lined on the foot of the Sekotong hills. Some traditional boats lined up neatly in a fisherman village ornate and painted with beautiful colors. It is a charming sight to see or a best selfie point for your Instagram.
From the peak of the hills, we can see the the turquoise waters of the Mekaki bay with its white sandy beaches surrounded by green lush natural reserve forest .
Enjoy Grilled Seafood at Batu Kijuk
After enjoying the beautiful beaches of Mekaki, Dusun Batu Kijuk is one of the best place to get the authentic taste of the Sekotong seafoods.
From the roads the aroma comes out through the smoke of grilled fish. The seafood at this place are still fresh from the oven. Which means that fishes are recently fishing by local fisherman.
Hj Fatimah, one seafood seller at Batu Kijuk tell her special offers. The grilled seafood are served traditionally with hot spicy chili sauce in a sea side bamboo gazebo.
“Food is not just about taste, but also where we eat,” she said.
There are various grilled seafood available at Batu Kijuk. Such as grilled fishes of Baronang, Kakap, Kerapu, and Tengiri. Some sellers are also provide squid and octopus but it is limited. For your information Batu Kijuk has well known for its grilled seafood for long time ago, and its original recipe was never changed until now. (LPG)
